The Plants Recipes Q&A Growing Herbs Harvesting Herbs Herbs Indoor

Most herbs do very well inside over the winter.

A few simple tips:

  • Give them a Sunny Location – south or west facing window is best
  • Reduce Water – more plants die from being water-logged than from being dry
  • Reduce Fertilizer – once a month is lots; we suggest a liquid organic fertilizer since it is less likely to ‘burn’ the plant, and is easily absorbed by it.
  • No Drafts or blowing air – if possible move away from any heat registers.
  • Clip Regularly! Use them in your everyday cooking, they’ll do better, but ensure that you always leave at least 5-6 leaves on most plants so it can keep on regenerating. All the leaves on plants such as chives and parsley can however be cut right back to within a few inches of the soil, they will regenerate.
